What makes a good AI business name?
A good AI business name is short, distinctive and spelled the same everywhere you need it: as a .ai, a .com and an X handle.
| Rule | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Letters and numbers only | X allows underscores but no hyphens; a .ai allows hyphens but no underscores |
| 15 characters or fewer | That's the longest username X allows |
| Prefer invented or unexpected words | The USPTO rates them stronger than plain descriptions |
| Stay clear of others' trademarks | The .ai registry bans trademark infringement, and Anguilla's government can cancel or transfer any .ai |
| Budget for 2 years | Porkbun sells and renews a .ai for at least 2 years at a time |

How do you check if an AI business name is available?
Type it into our checker: one search covers the .ai, the .com, X, GitHub and the App Store. Our checks read each platform from the outside, so confirm a name when you sign up (how our checks work).
For domain endings and trademark classes that suit AI, see Brand names for AI.
Does Google treat a .ai domain as a country site?
No. Google treats .ai as a generic ending, like .com, so it doesn't read a .ai site as one meant for Anguilla.
Google says people often see some country endings as generic, so it treats them that way. Its list also includes .io and .co, and Google notes the list may change.[6]
Do you need to trademark an AI business name?
No. The USPTO says registering is your choice, but a registration extends your rights to the whole country.
Class 42 covers AI as a service and class 9 covers downloadable software, so a hosted service plus an app needs both. A US filing costs $350 per class. Check US trademarks first, and read how to trademark a name before you launch.[7, 8, 9]
