How it works
Checked 25 Oct 2026, 06:11 UTC
We check each platform in up to five ways, and only call a name available when two independent checks agree.
How does a check work?
- Type a name, an idea or your domain, or choose Create a name and answer a few questions.
- Pick your platforms in order of importance. The first counts most in the score.
- We check every platform: the page itself, the platform's own lookups, a web search, and public records such as DNS and the Internet Archive.
- Where your name is taken, we find the closest version that's available everywhere you picked.[1]
What do the results mean?
Available means two or more checks agree nobody has the name; looks available means only one check found nothing, so confirm it at sign-up.
| Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Available | Two or more checks agree nobody has it |
| Looks available | One check found nothing, so confirm when you sign up |
| Close version | The exact name is taken; a close version is available |
| Taken | Someone has it |
| Unclear | The checks disagree or couldn't answer |
| Check it | The platform blocks outside checks; open it to check in one tap |

How fresh are the results?
We reuse an available result for up to 15 minutes, a taken result for 24 hours and a trademark result for 7 days.
| Answer | Reused for up to |
|---|---|
| Available or looks available | 15 minutes |
| Taken | 24 hours |
| Trademarks | 7 days |
| When you open a name to claim it | We check again, reusing nothing older than a minute |

What can't we check?
Three platforms block or hide outside checks, so we hand those checks to you.
| Platform | What happens |
|---|---|
| Facebook personal profiles | Hidden from logged-out checks, so confirm at sign-up |
| No public lookup; we link to the name so your own WhatsApp can check it | |
| Blocks outside checks; you get a one-tap check instead |

Where do the rules on this site come from?
From each platform first: its help pages, developer docs, policies and terms, with the date and time we checked. Where a platform says nothing, we use trusted sources marked "secondary", or guides marked "reported". Each page's sources sit in a list at the bottom.[3]
