Vimeo URL checker and rules
A paid Vimeo account can give its profile a custom URL, such as vimeo.com/yourname. Our check looks up that address. How our checks work
What can a Vimeo URL contain?
Letters and numbers only, Vimeo says. It doesn't publish a length limit; one guide says 3 to 30 characters.
| Character | Allowed? |
|---|---|
| Letters a to z | Yes |
| Numbers 0 to 9 | Yes |
| Underscores, hyphens, periods, spaces | No |
How do you get a Vimeo custom URL?
- Check the name above, with the .com and YouTube.
- Go to vimeo.com, select Join, and enter your name, email and a password, or use Google.
- Answer or skip the survey, then choose a plan. A custom URL needs a paid one.
- Verify your email address.
- In account settings, open the Profile tab and set your address under Vimeo URL.[1, 3]
How much does Vimeo cost?
Vimeo has a free plan, but a custom URL needs a paid one. Prices are per seat, in US dollars.
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $12 a month ($144 a year) | $20 a month |
| Standard | $25 a month ($300 a year) | $41 a month |
| Advanced | $75 a month ($900 a year) | $125 a month |
Vimeo is also rolling out a Professional plan gradually; its help page gives no price.[5, 9]
What should you know before you claim a Vimeo URL?
Custom URLs are first come, first served, and a trademark doesn't reserve one for you.
| Fact | What it means |
|---|---|
| First come, first served | Vimeo issues custom URLs to whoever claims them first |
| Trademarks | Owning a trademark doesn't give you the matching URL |
| Refunds | Full refund within 14 days of a yearly plan, or 3 days of a monthly one |
| Downgrades | They start at your next renewal date |
What can go wrong with a Vimeo URL, and how do you fix it?
Most problems are a taken URL or a free account, which can't set one.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The URL is taken | Use a close version from the checker |
| You can't set a custom URL | Free accounts can't; choose a paid plan |
| Someone uses your trademark as a URL | Report it with Vimeo's trademark form |
| A bot check blocks sign-up | Turn off any VPN or proxy and try again |
Which platforms should you claim with Vimeo?
The .com, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and Behance. See all creator platforms, and read Growing Vimeo once you're set up.
Checks Vimeo, the .com, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and Behance in one search.
