SNS .sns name checker and rules
SNS, the Solana Name Service, registers new Solana names as .sns. Our check looks the name up on the Solana network itself. How our checks work
What can a .sns name contain?
Lowercase characters, from a single character up. SNS doesn't publish a full character list or a maximum length.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Shortest | 1 character |
| Case | Lowercase only |
| Our checker | Letters, numbers and hyphens, up to 32 characters |
How much does a .sns name cost?
$20 for 5 or more characters, $160 for 4 and $640 for 3, with no renewal fee listed; SNS's docs still head the list ".sol domains". Prices are in US dollars, charged in the token you pick or by card.
| Length | Price |
|---|---|
| 1 character | $750 |
| 2 characters | $700 |
| 3 characters | $640 |
| 4 characters | $160 |
| 5 or more | $20 |
A small SOL fee also pays for the accounts that store the name on the network.[1, 2]
How do you register a .sns name?
What should you know before you register a .sns name?
A .sns name may share its name with a separate .sol, because SNS turned every older .sol into a .sns.
| Fact | What it means |
|---|---|
| Old .sol names | Names held before 17 August 2026 now display as .sns, records intact |
| A matching .sol | Those holders also get a new .sol, a separate name that can be sold apart |
| One primary domain | Each wallet address can show one |
| NFT optional | You can wrap the name as an NFT; unwrap it to edit records |
What can go wrong with a .sns name, and how do you fix it?
Most problems are a taken name, a name that won't resolve or a risky transfer.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The .sns is taken | The checker shows close versions and other endings that are available with your handles |
| The name won't resolve | Update or verify its SOL record |
| Sending it to a program address | SNS warns this can lock the name for good. Check the address first |
| The .sns and .sol are in different wallets | They're separate names. Move one so both sit together |
