It can't start with www. or end like a web address, such as .com. Capitals don't count, but periods and underscores do, so jo.hn and john are different names.[1, 2]

Can a business get a WhatsApp username yet?

You can reserve one now, and usernames go live country by country later in 2026. Businesses could start reserving on 29 June 2026.

WhatsApp doesn't publish a country list. It tells you in the app when usernames reach your country. On the WhatsApp Business Platform, your business portfolio needs a higher messaging limit before it can claim one.[1, 2, 3]

How do you reserve a WhatsApp username?

Update WhatsApp, then open Settings, Account, Username and enter the name you want.

  1. Check the name above, with Instagram and Facebook.
  2. Update WhatsApp, then go to Settings, Account, Username.
  3. If the same name is yours on Instagram or Facebook, add your WhatsApp account to Accounts Center to claim it.
  4. On the WhatsApp Business Platform, claim it in WhatsApp Manager or Meta Business Suite instead.[1, 2, 3]

What should you know before reserving a WhatsApp username?

Some names are held back for their owners, and nobody can search for your username.
