Using your .sns name
A .sns name stands in for your Solana address, and each one comes with a web address at name.sol.site.
Basics
What does a .sns name do?
It replaces your Solana address: people send funds to the name, and apps show it on your profile.
| Use | What it does |
|---|---|
| Payments | Funds go to the name's SOL record, which can differ from the wallet that holds it |
| Primary domain | Shows your name in apps; one per wallet address |
| Records | Addresses on other chains, social handles such as X, and URLs |
| Website | name.sol.site, in any browser |
How do you set up your .sns name?
Set it as your primary domain, check its SOL record, then add your records and profile on sns.id.
- Open the name's Domain Profile page at sns.id. No name yet? Check one.
- Set it as your primary domain.
- Check its SOL record. A name with an unverified SOL record won't resolve.
- Add addresses, social handles, a URL, and a profile name and avatar.
If the name is wrapped as an NFT, unwrap it before you edit records.[1]
How do you put a website on your .sns name?
Every .sns name includes a website at name.sol.site, with no extra fee or renewal. You point it at a server or email provider with DNS records.
| Record | Use |
|---|---|
| A, AAAA | Point to a server's address |
| CNAME | Make it an alias for another domain |
| MX | Receive email, for example with Google Workspace |
Settings lock for 48 hours after you acquire a name. Sol.site isn't available for subdomains or names listed for sale.[1, 2]
Advanced
Can you create subdomains under your .sns name?
Yes. Turn the name into a subdomain registrar to issue names under it; all subdomain registrations carry a 5% fee.
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Who can register | Anyone, or only holders of an NFT collection |
| Revoking | You choose whether admins can take subdomains back |
| Marketplace | Subdomains aren't visible or tradable there |
Solflare, Pyth and MonkeDAO are among the projects running subdomain registrars.[1]
Can apps read your .sns name?
Yes. SNS publishes SDKs and an API; its sns-sdk-kit resolves .sns names to addresses and looks up primary domains and subdomains. For older .sol names, see using a .sol name.[1, 3]
