Basics

What is a .tech domain good for?

Tech startups and companies. Radix calls .tech the home of "the world's most innovative tech startups" and features the robotics company 1X Technologies and the electronics maker Nothing. Rules and prices are on the .tech checker.[1, 2]

What does a .tech cost after the first year?

$50.98 a year at Porkbun, about seven times the $6.99 first year. Short dictionary words can be premium, and each premium tier can set its own renewal price. Compare endings by renewal price.[3, 4, 5]

Can students get a .tech domain for free?

Yes, for one year. The GitHub Student Developer Pack includes one standard .tech domain at no cost for the first year. Claim your GitHub name while you're there.[1, 6]

How do you set up email and HTTPS on a .tech?

The same way as on any domain; .tech adds no rules of its own.

StepWhat to know
EmailGmail requires SPF or DKIM from every sender; over 5,000 a day, SPF, DKIM and DMARC
HTTPSChrome and Safari now try HTTPS first for every site, so add a certificate
CertificateMany hosts set up a free Let's Encrypt certificate; on your own server, use Certbot

Does a .tech rank worse on Google than a .com?

No. In 2015, Google said its systems treat new endings like .com and .org, and that keywords in an ending give no advantage or disadvantage. It treats .tech as generic, not tied to a country. For search and AI steps, see Using your .com; they work the same on a .tech.[10, 11]
